JUBAEA CHILENSIS
Probably the most sought-after palm in cold climates. Majestic, with thick trunks and a compact crown. Really difficult to grow in the first few years. For this reason it is marketed from the fifth year of life onwards.
Once established, it requires little care. Well-drained, slightly acidic soils and sunny exposure. Isolated locations in the garden are recommended, well ventilated and in a visible place. Its presence gives landscape quality to our space and it is almost obligatory to have it in a collection of palms.
Hybridisation with Butia odorata or yatay (Jubutia azulada) is very popular. We have our own seeds, production and sale from 2026.
In some forums Jubutia from Butia yatay has been considered a variant of Jubaea azulada. Some seed suppliers in Chile have argued this for sale, claiming collection in secret colonies in the Valparaiso area of Chile. We are almost certain that they are hybrids of Jubaea chilensis with Butia yatay. Attractive for their shade, faster growing and less sensitive to excess water.
